Frequently Asked Questions

  • Typically, we like to start our first session by hearing your story. In order to help you make progress, it’s helpful to know your past. In leadership and management coaching, Jaye is likely to ask for your entire life story - starting with your childhood. The reason why we often go pretty far back is to better understand the patterns that make you who you are and the experiences you’ve had that we can leverage to help you be your best. When we understand your roots and frameworks, it helps us help you.

It’s also helpful to do some reflecting and to set some goals for yourself before you walk into your first session with your coach. What do you think you want to work on? Which topics or issues are most urgent for you to tackle first?

You may want to also think a little bit about how you learn best. The more you can tell us, the more we can cater our support for you. Do you like homework assignments? Do you like having a few minutes to collect your thoughts at the beginning of each session? Do you like setting an agenda? The more you tell us about your learning preferences and style, the better.

  • After your first session, we typically get int our regular rhythm. You don’t need to send an agenda or anything to your coach ahead of time, but it is useful for you to jot down a few notes throughout the week for yourself about things you might want to discuss with your coach. Your coach will appreciate you sharing your agenda at the start of each session so we can pace ourselves and make sure we get to discuss all of the topics that are on your mind.

Here are some ways of thinking that may help you prepare for your sessions:

Looking ahead: Do you have a big meeting or event coming up soon and you want to ensure it goes well? Let’s talk about it and make a plan.

Looking behind: Did you have a meeting recently that didn’t go as you had hoped? Let’s reflect together and figure out what you could have done differently?

Relationships to manage: Do you want to help someone grow and learn? Do you want to give someone feedback? Think about the people you interact with and if there are any patterns you’d want to change.

Strategy + tactics: Do you want high-level advice on how to approach a topic or do you want specific tactical know-how to help you move something forward? It’s helpful to let us know what you’re looking for.

Self-reflection: What have you noticed about yourself? Do you like what you see or do you want to change it? Why do you want to change it? How might you change it?
